Accommodation in Nanded

The city of Nanded, with more than one million pilgrims visiting it every year, has grossly inadequate hospitality infrastructure. Majority of the hotels, lodges and inns have a dozen to fifty rooms catering primarily to the lower and lower middle class clientele. The facilities like payment by credit cards, satellite TVs, ISD telephone and broadband internet have just been introduced in a few of these hotels. The modern luxuries like Jacuzzi, sauna and a well equipped gymnasium are yet to step foot in Nanded hotels.

The city is a pilgrimage city and not a primary tourist attraction. Probably this is the reason for the woe-be gone state of the hospitality industry in Nanded. The other reason is the cheap accommodation available in the Gurudwaras. Actually, the Gurudwaras have more than 2000 rooms and dormitories for the pilgrims. The pilgrims who come with families prefer to stay in the family rooms provided by the Gurudwaras for economy and safety reasons. The lower and middle class Sikh families from various parts of India consider a stay in the Gurudwara as a divine blessing and a privilege.

The Sachkhand Gurudwara has Yatri Nivas or Pilgrim Accommodation with 800 rooms with attached bathrooms. Similarly Gurudwara Langar Sahib has more than 1100 rooms and dormitories for the pilgrims.

The construction of Gurudwara Langar Sahib NRI Yatri Niwas, a ten storey building with each floor having more than 11000 sq ft of accommodation has already commenced and is expected to be over by the next year. The NRI Yatri Nivas will provide all the modern facilities like internet, canteen, laundry and elegantly furnished rooms with well designed bathrooms. The building has been planned with different décor for each floor. It would invariably be the tallest structure in Nanded. A stay at the NRI Yatri Niwas would be infinitely better than one of the mid range hotels of Nanded.

So wait for a little while and be part of the Gurta-Gaddi celebrations in 2008 for a holistic travel experience in the city of the Tenth Guru but ensure your reservations months prior to your visit.
