Takht Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib is a three hundred year old historical Sikh shrine at Nanded. The Sikh Shrine or Gurudwara of Nanded is a Sikh Takht. The Five Takhts are the five pedestals of the Sikh religion and all Sikhs long to pay a visit to each of them during their lifetime. The Takht at Nanded is associated with the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev and the last Guru, Guru Gobind Singh. Guru Nanak Dev while on his Deccan tour had preached the tenets of Sikh religion in Nanded. The Sachkhand Gurudwara is known for the Tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh who declared the holy book of Sikhs, Guru Granth Sahib as the only Guru of Sikhs. Guru Gobind Singh rose to the stature of Guru at the tender age of nine years after the martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur. He was a brilliant scholar. He learned many languages and scriptures to preach the teachings of the Gurus. He was a leader and valiant soldier. He organized one of the best Sikh armies and helped the Mughal Emperor Bahadurshah to subdue the rebellion of his brothers. Guru Gobind Singh reached Nanded with the Emperor in the end of August 1708. The Emperor went to Golconda after a few days of rest and Guru Gobind Singh stayed on to preach the Sikh teachings. The Sirhind Nawab who had earlier killed Guru Gobind Singh’s sons sent agents to kill him. He was mortally wounded in the attack and breathed his last on October 07, 1708. But before his demise he proclaimed the Holy Book Granth Sahib as the Eternal Guru of Sikhs. The place is then known as Sachkhand Gaman or Parlok Gaman, the last journey of the preacher of truth. Gurta-Gaddi Celebrations. The three hundredth anniversary of the event in 2008, Gurta-Gaddi will be a celebrated in Nanded in October. The event is planned to commemorate the consecration of the Holy Book Guru Granth Sahib and Parlok Gaman of the Tenth Guru. The celebration will be organized over a ten day period and is expected to attract more than three million Sikhs from all over the world. The temple complex of Sachkhand Gurudwara is less than a mile from River Godavari, spread over hundreds of acres of lush green surroundings. The main building is a two storey marble structure fashioned on the architecture and look of Golden Temple. The interiors are decorated with the artistic style of Harminder Sahib. The walls of the Sanctum Sanctorum, the Angitha Sahib are paved with gold plates. The dome on top of the temple is made of copper and plated with pure gold. The temple also houses the revered relics like the golden dagger, golden swords and a matchlock gun of the Tenth Guru. These are displayed in the Angitha Sahib. The Guru gave the name Abchalnagar, the Steadfast City, to the city of Nanded. The complex also has hundreds of rest houses for the visitors and a huge office block. The temple was constructed between 1832 and 1837 by the Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The place will always be revered as the final resting place of the Tenth Guru and the birth place of the eternal Guru of Sikhs, Guru Granth Sahib. |
